The Ego Plum Laboratory – performing live scores to classic Gumby episodes

The Ego Plum Laboratory of Electro-Musical Instruments (EPL) is the brainchild and ever-evolving workshop of Ego Plum—a delightfully strange music ensemble dedicated to bringing the unperformable to life. Specializing in works never intended for the stage, the EPL reimagines and performs music by visionary electronic pioneers such as Raymond Scott, Mort Garson, and Perrey & Kingsley, alongside original compositions drawn from Plum’s own film, television, and animation projects. Blurring the line between laboratory experiment and live performance, the ensemble transforms intricate studio creations, whimsical electronic oddities, and cartoon soundscapes into vivid, theatrical musical multimedia events that feel equal parts concert, and living artifact from an alternate electronic age. Ego Plum is an Emmy-nominated Los Angeles–based composer known for his imaginative, genre-defying work across animation, film, television, and themed entertainment. His credits include The Cuphead Show!, The Patrick Star Show, and SpongeBob SquarePants, as well as original music for attractions at Disneyland, among others. Blending orchestral craft with experimental textures, playful electronics, and a distinctly surreal sensibility, Plum’s work bridges classic cartoon scoring traditions with bold, contemporary sonic exploration.
