Frankie Cosmos – Celebrating 10 Years of Next Thing
Gabby’s World

In the 10 years since Next Thing’s release, Frankie Cosmos has toured the world, gone gold, changed bandmates multiple times, and developed sonically, while maintaining Greta Kline’s strong artistic voice. Next Thing has remained a potent collection of songs, some of which have been sprinkled into Frankie Cosmos’ set lists for the past decade. Now, for the first time since its release, the current line-up of Frankie Cosmos will perform the album in its entirety. They have also re-worked songs from their more recent catalogue through the lens of the Next Thing sound — a simplified drum kit, a single Casio keyboard, and a Danelectro guitar with no pedals. The tour dates are in support of the anniversary vinyl release: a remaster that includes 3 previously unreleased demos of songs from the album. If you saw Frankie Cosmos in 2016, this is the nostalgia tour for you!

Gabby’s World

Gabby Smith has spent the last 15 years creating original work including the acclaimed albums O.K. (2015)— one of NPR Bob Boilen’s top three albums of the year — Year of the Rabbit (2016), and Beast on Beast (2018), which received accolades from Pitchfork, New York Times, The Fader, and more. Rolling Stone describes Smith as a “prolific artist” whose “winsome songs read like full-fledged novellas, at once capable of spitting truth, romancing the listener and offering consolation from life’s more gnarled moments.” In addition to her solo work under the moniker Gabby’s World, Smith has continuously collaborated and toured with artists including Japanese Breakfast, Frankie Cosmos, Barrie, Mitski, Alex G, and more.

In 2018, Smith took a break from music after a decade of touring to pursue a degree in Evolutionary Biology from Columbia University. She’s begun her return to music with a new album, GABBY SWORD. The record offers a glimpse into the natural evolution of an artist — for Gabby herself, discovery, falling in love and marrying her wife and fellow musician Barrie Lindsay, living across the world from France to Maine, each track capturing a snapshot. The album will arrive in 2023 with an unconventional, thrilling release schedule. Each month, a new single will be announced and released, culminating in the full release of GABBY SWORD at the end of the year. Smith’s decision to break from the traditional album cycle and “waterfall” her singles is a reaction to the ever-changing landscape of the music industry. Tracks from the album received pickup from numerous playlists, including Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” and “All New Indie” and Apple Music’s “New In Indie.”

Written, recorded, and co-produced with Barrie Lindsay (of Barrie) in makeshift studios between Brooklyn, Maine, and Southern France. GABBY SWORD is Smith’s true self in song, a collection freed from the weight of disguise and open to infinite possibility. It’s their exploration of love, loss, queer identity, and the relationship between public and private self in a life in music.
